Britain's politicians are governing with a blindfold on

The Government says that growing the economy is its number one mission. But it risks being close to mission impossible - not because Britain hasn't had any meaningful growth since the 2008 financial crisis, but because the Government simply can't trust the basic economic data on which its policies depend.

The country's basic data infrastructure is failing us. The Labour Force Survey response rate has declined from over 40% to 15% since the pandemic. Migration stats and retail sales have become unreliable. The Wealth and Assets Survey has been stripped of its statistical accreditation altogether.
